FAST in Science magazine
Thanks to STM movies up to 60 frames per second acquired with the FAST module, we were able to unravel the catalytic role played by nickel adatoms diffusing on the substrate during graphene growth at 470 °C. On the basis of our movies, DFT calculations and molecular dynamics simulations proved that single nickel adatoms are attracted by the graphene edge where they facilitate the attachment of additional carbon atoms in a line by line fashion.
